Da Vinci shoulder study copy

This will be a thank you card for the friend who bought me the Da Vinci anatomy book. See, buy me good art books and you might get a drawing out of it! About 5-6″, graphite.

KD:M King’s Man WIP 2

What’s a couple years between WIP updates between friends? Dusted off this fine plastic model (ok, he was under a cover and not dusty). Spent an hour messing around trying to remember how brushes work. Some base coats and messing with how nmm works again…

Loomis Mannikins

Working on the 2nd stage mannikins from Loomis’ Figure Drawing. These are really helping my visualize proportions. Besides adding a bit more structure, it’s getting a feel for the gesture of the bones and simplifies the 8-head scale into quarters (mostly for the lower half).

Loomis Mannikins

Working on 1st stage Loomis mannikins. Some from the book, some from abstracting photos, some from imagination.

Good for whipping up quick poses and builds nicely off the proportion work I was doing earlier in this book.

Darth Malgus

I did a drawing using a promo statue of Darth Malgus as reference. I started it on May 4th for a Star Wars project, but I also wanted to practice working from a live reference rather than a drawing copy. Graphite 9×12.

Upper Arm Studies

Ok, time to get back to regular updates.

Here we have some upper arm studies from Winsow’s anatomy. I had recently done some arm abstraction from Huston’s figure drawing, and this follows the idea of gesture – structure – anatomy. Graphite 9×12.

New hosting, moving forward

Hi, kids! I’ve got the posts migrated over to the new host, but the images will remain broken links, courtesy of Dropbox.

Moving forward, I’ll be hosting my own images. Hopefully this means any future site migrations can be made with images intact.

I’ll start updating regularly again now, and in the near future put together some galleries of previous works. Here’s to the next phase of art and instruction! Thanks so much for your interest in my journey!

Why I dislike Dropbox

I’ve used them since they were in beta for image hosting. They decided that they only want to do document sharing and not image hosting, so….all the images from my blog (and pretty much everywhere on the Internet I’ve posted for years) are now dead links.

Thanks, Dropbox. Glad I gave you years of positive word-of-mouth. Decorum dictates I edit out my actual feelings right now.

It’s such an entirely monumental task to rebuild this blog, I’m not sure I can do it. So many years of WIPs and finished stuff, going back to 2012, all done now. On the whim of an Internet company.
